Maryam Mirzakhani & Problem-Solving

I spent a good part of my week discovering the work of Maryam Mirzakhani thanks to an excellent documentary on ARTE. In 2014, this brilliant mathematician became the first Iranian to be honored with the Fields medal, and the first of only two women to date! 👩🏻‍🏫🥇 While I did take several advanced maths courses for my Computer Engineering diploma, I do not have the required level to understand the details of her work on hyperbolic geometry.

DynamoDB: Summary & Notes

Storage is cheap as can be, while compute is at a premium. DynamoDB is a fully-managed, NoSQL database provided by Amazon Web Services. 💡Key Properties of DynamoDB Key-value or wide-column data model Key-value store: retrieve one record at a time. Wide-column store: super-charged version of a hash table where the value for each record in your hash table is a B-tree (think of it as a phonebook: “Give me all entries between Dupond and Dupré”) Infinite scaling with no performance degradation Most operations in DynamoDB have response times in single-digit milliseconds.

Goodbye Ubisoft!

Three years ago, I joined Ubisoft as a Data Engineer to work in a field I knew nothing about: transactional fraud in the gaming industry! 🎮 Time flew by quickly, and a few weeks ago, I said goodbye to the team as I have chosen to discover yet another field unknown to me… but I shall tell you more about that in a separate post 😉 Feature Store @ Ubisoft What a thrill it was to be part of this amazing company!

ScalaIO 2022: Towards Simplicity?

I had the chance to attend ScalaIO 2022 in Paris. This is my first in-person conference since FOSDEM 2019! Although I haven’t coded in Scala for quite some time, I have been following Scala’s news from afar, as it is quite relevant to my field as well as a topic of personal interest. The conference was packed with tech talks, so I got to learn a great deal about the novelties, the ecosystem, and most importantly, the community’s mindset.
